What you need:
  • A pair of sandals (preferably an old one to turn into something new)
  • Garter or leather strapping that matches with the color of the straps of your sandals
  • Scissors
  • Glue or glue gun

Steps:

1. Start by measuring out the strapping – I used about 2 metres (2.2 yards) for each leg. Then you would want to attach it to your flats. There are two ways to do this. The best way is by weaving it through or under the existing straps. Glue is optional since you might want to restore your sandals into its original state, unless it won't stay put without. Another option is to simply glue it on or under existing straps. Figure out first which method to take since you want to make it look as natural as possible in its attachment.

Tip: It would be easier to pull the strap through a loop when a pin is attached to its end.

2. You can see what I did was push it through an existing hole in the shoe, but, as mentioned, you can also glue it over the top or underneath. Make sure you have half of the strap's length on each side. Do that for both shoes.

3. Now’s the fun part! You want to weave it around both legs, making sure it is tight enough not to fall down. Make sure you are creating a symmetrical crossing over of the straps. You can go as high as you want depending on how dramatic you want the look to be.

4. Weave it all the way up and then secure in a bow at the back. Voila!

Tip: You may also try a different kind of weaving
