The Battle of the Browns

We're sure you've more or less noticed the recent surge in demand and supply for matte lipsticks alongside the rise of the quest for the perfect nude lippie. With the dizzying amount of selections, they can be tricky to work with, as with differing tones, applications, textures, and whatnot. We know how tough it is to find that match made in heaven, which is where we come into play, but more on that later! Matte lipsticks tend to be drying and rough, leaving you with flaky and dry lips; which is why we prefer siding with luxury makeup brands, as we believe that quality is never compromised as opposed to drugstore brands. It's quickly assumed that as cheap brands are, in fact, cheaper, they are of lower quality, they may ruin our skin, give us more breakouts, etc. But hey, we must also consider and not be so hesitant and scared of looking into more affordable and even local brands because you never really know what's good unless you try out for yourself, right? But is it really worth all that dryness and peeling?

Today, we do a swatch test, but instead of comparing matte finishes, we'd like to focus more on shades of nude and touch on the matte aspect of the collection in focus. So, more of us are looking into the brown lip trend and into bolder and edgier colors as opposed to softer ones when it comes to our nude lippies. That said, Maybelline New York has released five more shades from the Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte line – and they are brown nudes! The shades really do speak bold and edgy! So, what is the verdict? Well, there's no really one way to say it, but...

In terms of shade, all three of us are pretty sure we've fallen in love with the brown nudes. The luxury brand lipsticks are still beautiful the same, however. If you're more into being bold and edgy, you might want to give the brown nudes a try! They're very rich in pigment, and we believe their shades would look beautiful on any skin tone!

In terms of application, all lipsticks go on very smoothly. But, here's the thing, that includes the more affordable lipstick brand! The creamy mattes are truly creamy mattes! We're actually pretty surprised that they are even as creamy as the non-matte finish ones we've swatched. They are super soft on the lips, and they are honestly far from drying, which is the ultimate game changer.

Now we can say that we don't have to splurge on expensive products because there are more affordable ones out there that won't shortchange you on quality! Even without having compared them to other lipsticks, Maybelline New York's Creamy Matte Brown Nudes are still winners for us!
