No Double Dipping Allowed!

We've visited and ate at so many restaurants with delicious meals whenever we visit Osaka. Now we're craving, but do we have to go back just to have more of them? Sometimes, all a weary and tired soul wants is a simple and delicious meal. No frills, just some honest to goodness gastronomic goodness. "What I like about it is that it serves simple food that also happens to be highly addictive. One or two sticks is never enough," said Charles Paw, food entrepreneur. If you're a fan of Kushikatsu Daruma's skewers, they're now here in Manila. Already thinking of when to visit them?

If some of you aren't familiar with kushikatsu, a kushikatsu is a Japanese delicacy that comprises of deep-fried skewered meat and vegetables. Kushikatsu Daruma is an iconic restaurant in the famous Dotonburi area of Osaka that serves the best kushikatsu in Japan.

Those who are unsure of where to start have the option to try their sets, for kushikatsu beginners and experienced eaters alike. Their Beginner Level set includes 9 sticks: the classic kushikatsu, prawns, chicken with garlic, chikuwa, tsukane (chicken meatballs), tonkatsu (porkloin), leeks, potato, and camambert cheese. The Advanced Level includes 11 sticks: the classic kushikatsu, chicken heart, chicken intestine, pork intestine, chicken gizzard, garlic, lady finger, gyoza, white onion, leeks, and tonkatsu.

These skewer sticks are served with a sweet yet tart mystery umami sauce. This special sauce is regularly flown in from Osaka to Manila in order to guarantee a truly authentic Kushikatsu experience.

Along with the kushikatsu set, we had their rice bowls to pair with. We tried the Chicken Teriyaki and the Gyudon with Cheese.

A word of warning. No double dipping on the umami saunce! But don't worry, you can double down on your Chu Hais from Mondays to Fridays 4-9PM at Uptown Mall and avail of their Buy 1 Take 1 happy hour promo! For the drinks, we had the Lychee and Matcha Chu Hais.

Check them out at Uptown Mall, BGC, and let us know how you like 'em!

Much love,
Candis & Daphne
