Mrs. Smith

Every so often we find ourselves needing a break from the playful yet sophisticated outfits and our everyday easy-going getups. Don't we sometimes if not often find ourselves in the mood for something boldly and strikingly sleek yet entirely minimalist and easy to pull off without compromising its arresting aura? You know the drill. It's nice to take a break. There's almost nothing better to accompany you in looking breathtakingly polished than an all-black ensemble. Yes, what were we thinking, as we are most definitely aware of the blazing summer heat that has thrown Manila into frenzy? A black shirt on a hot, sunny, sunny day? What more all black from head to toe? The blacks just trap the heat inside! But there is always a way to rock the color, or non-color, this season. It all boils down to you (no pun intended). We know we couldn't let this weather stop us from satisfying our all-black cravings all summer. Because black is able to capture countless personalities, it always manages to make us seem – and feel – fierce from feminine with flowy blouses and girly skirts to badass edgy with oversized band tees and leather pants.

The beauty of all-black? Mixing textures and fabrics without the horror of creating an overly exaggerated outfit. Take advantage of the fact that black is known for giving a slimming illusion and have the clothes hug you more fit and flattering, rather than shapeless and drab. And try as we might to embrace brighter hues, we can't quit going dark (you can also see how we rocked dark hues in the summer last year here). Read on for tips and tricks!

Tell me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming we all keep numerous knit pieces we've gotten tired of in the backs of our closets, believing that there will come a day or two in the future when we'd decide to wear them again when in fact and in reality we never do anymore. Most of us know this story too well and have witnessed it ourselves. Well, there also is a story that goes when these old knit pieces were layered on together to create a freshly structured outfit. Don't wait for that day to come and instead try looking from a novel perspective on what you could do with these old and even worn-out clothing items. Honestly, I have been reserved in wearing these items lately because I feel like I've already "worn them enough," but rarely do I attempt to experiment with layers in styling my outfits; and I found novelty in that perspective, allowing me to find the opportunity to create something new out of my olds.

Finding a blazer that will perfectly suit you is a very tough job. When it comes to buying blazers, I always consider the structure and the type of cloth used on them. Stumbling upon different stores, I finally found my match made in heaven. Who would not want to buy that perfect cape blazer number that you have been direly hunting for especially when it is already calling out for your name? Matching different pieces hiding in my closet, I was able to get the perfect combination that will make you versatile on any occasion day in and day out.  During daytime, you can use this look for semi-professional meetings. While during the night, by simply removing the blazer, you are ready to go out, party, and have a blast with your favorite gals. Wearing a red lipstick like me will allow you add color to the face thus avoiding the stereotype of common people that black is simply boring. Also, every girl might need a break from her very uncomfortable and painful heels. So, if you don't want to wear heels, statement shoes is a must for this look.

I don't know about you, but wearing the color black on full mode can really make a difference. Even just by wearing a basic top and pants, it looked so chic and clean. To make the pieces appear more dressy, I opted for a light-weight ribbed top with a lace up detail paired with pinstriped bottoms that would make the outfit look sharper. The trick here is, like on all monochromatic techniques we've mentioned on our previous posts, varying fabrics and textures. Nothing looks duller than an all-black outfit that is all cotton. That's something one should think about when wearing something monochrome, especially black. You wouldn't want to be caught looking like a walking disaster! Keeping accessories minimal and shoes very simple, the look can be easily transitioned from school to a dinner out. Always keep in mind that just throwing on pieces of clothing won't always make you look the best you are.

Hope you liked today's look! See you on our upcoming posts!
